Seigneur Jean I d'Avesnes married Adelaide (Alhildis) (of Holland), daughter of Count Florenz IV of Holland and Adelaide of Holland, on 9 October 1246.1 Seigneur Jean I d'Avesnes died on 24 December 1257 in Valenciennes, Nord, France, at age 39.2,1 He was buried in Valenciennes, France.1
