Samuel Wood was born on 6 May 1735 in Hempstead, Long Island, New York
.2 He was the son of John Wood and Mary Carmen. Samuel Wood was baptized in 1736 at St. George Episcopal Church, Hempstead, Long Island, New York. He married Freelove Wright, daughter of Elijah Wright and Ann (?), on 8 October 1759.2 Samuel Wood died traditionally by drowning in 1762 at Hampstead Bay, Long Island, New York.2
He became the father of William Wood on 17 July 1760.2 Samuel Wood became a Friend as a young man.2
