President James Buchanan was born on 23 April 1791 in Stony Batter near, Mercersburg, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of James Buchanan and Elizabeth Speer.1 President James Buchanan died on 1 June 1868 in Wheatland, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, at age 77.1 He was buried in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.1
James's father James Buchanan died in 1821.1 James's mother Elizabeth Speer died in 1833.1 Was elected in 1856 over John C. Frémont and Millard Fillmore by a popular vote of 1,832,955 to 1,339,932 and 871,731 and an electoral vote of 174 to 114 and 8. John C. Breckinridge served as his vice-president. In 1819, as a young and successful lawyer, Buchanan fell in love with Anne Coleman, daughter of a Lancaster millionaire. Her parents disapproved. Because of rumors Anne broke the engagement. She died in December of that same year. Buchanan vowed never to marry. Called 'Old Buck'.1 President James Buchanan became President of the United States on 4 March 1857 replacing President Franklin Pierce. President James Buchanan was over Vice President John C. Breckinridge as Vice President of the United States on 4 March 1857.
