President James Madison was born on 16 March 1751 in Port Conway, King George County, Virginia.1 He was the son of James Madison and Eleanor (Nelly) Rose Conway.1 President James Madison married Dorothea (Dolley) Payne on 15 September 1794 in Harewood near, Charles Town, Virginia.1 President James Madison died on 28 June 1836 in Montpelier, Orange County, Virginia, at age 85.1 He was buried in Montpelier, Orange County, Virginia.1
James's father James Madison died in 1801.1 Was elected in 1808 by 122 to 47 electoral votes over Charles Pinckney. Was reelected in 1812 by 128 to 89 electoral votes over De Witt Clinton. During his first term 1809-1812 George Clinton served as vice-president; during his second 1813-1814 Elbridge Gerry. From 1814 to 1817 the speaker of the House of Representatives served as vice-president.1 President James Madison became President of the United States on 4 March 1809 replacing President Thomas Jefferson.
