President Ulysses S. Grant

President Ulysses S. Grant was born on 27 April 1822 in Point Pleasant, Clermont County, Ohio.¹ He was the son of Jesse Root Grant and Hannah Simpson.¹ President Ulysses S. Grant married Julia Boggs Dent on 22 August 1848 in St Louis, Missouri.¹ President Ulysses S. Grant died on 23 July 1885 in Mount McGregor, New York, at age 63.¹ He was buried in Grant's Tomb, Riverside Park, New York.¹
He became the father of Frederick Dent Grant on 30 May 1850.¹ President Ulysses S. Grant became the father of Ulysses Simpson Grant on 22 July 1852.¹ President Ulysses S. Grant became the father of Ellen (Nellie) Wrenshall Grant on 4 July 1855.¹ President Ulysses S. Grant became the father of Jesse Root Grant on 6 February 1858.¹ Was elected in 1868 over Horatio Seymour by a popular vote of 3,013,421 to 2,706,829 and an electoral vote of 214 to 80. Won reelection in 1872 by votes of 3,596,745 to 2,843,446 and 286 to 0 over Horace Greeley. Became known in 1862 as 'Unconditional Surrender Grant'. In 1864, Lt. General Grant was given command of the northern army; accepted General Lee's surrender at Appomattox.¹ President Ulysses S. Grant became President of the United States on 4 March 1869 replacing President Andrew Johnson. President Ulysses S. Grant was over Vice President Schuyler Colfax as Vice President of the United States on 4 March 1869. Ulysses S.'s father Jesse Root Grant died in 1873.¹ President Ulysses S. Grant was over Vice President Henry Wilson as Vice President of the United States on 4 March 1873. Ulysses S.'s daughter was married at wedding of Ellen (Nellie) Wrenshall Grant and Algernon Charles Frederick Sartoris on 21 May 1874 in White House, Washington, DC.¹ Ulysses S.'s son was married at wedding of Frederick Dent Grant and Ida Marie Honore on 20 October 1874 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.¹
President Ulysses S. Grant was replaced as President of the United States by President Rutherford Birchard Hayes on 4 March 1877. Ulysses S.'s son was married at wedding of Jesse Root Grant and Elizabeth Chapman on 30 September 1880 in San Francisco, California.¹ Ulysses S.'s son was married at wedding of Ulysses Simpson Grant and (Fannie) Josephine Chaffee on 1 November 1880 in New York.¹ Ulysses S.'s mother Hannah Simpson died in 1883.¹
