     Seigneur Jean I d'Avesnes was the son of Seigneur Bouchard d'Avesnes and Margaret. Seigneur Jean I d'Avesnes was born in April 1218 in Houffalize, Luxembourg, Belgium, to, son of Seigneur Bouchard d'Avesnes and Margaret.2 Seigneur Jean I d'Avesnes is also recorded born on 1 May 1218 in Etraeungt, Nord, France.1 He married Adelaide (Alhildis) (of Holland), daughter of Count Florenz IV of Holland and Adelaide of Holland, on 9 October 1246.1 Seigneur Jean I d'Avesnes died on 24 December 1257 in Valenciennes, Nord, France.2,1 He was buried in Valenciennes, France.1
