John F. Hines was born about 1833 in Tennessee.1 He was the son of Elias Hines and Mary (Or Polly) (?)1 John F. Hines married Eliza Emily Lockhart, daughter of ? Lockhart and Martha (Or Mattie) (?), on 9 May 1852 in Tippah County, Mississippi.1 John F. Hines died on 11 November 1902 in Parker County, Texas.1
He served as a Private in H 23 Mississippi Infantry, C.S.A., enlisting 19 Sep 1861 and served until discharged from a Union prison 19 June 1865. With his regiment he was captured at the Battle of Fort Donelson, 19 feb. 1862; exchanged at Vicksburg 3 Sep 1862 and captured near Nashville 15 Dec 1864. Both times he was imprisoned at Camp Douglas near Chicago.1 John F.'s father Elias Hines died on 30 May 1846 in Tippah County, Arkansas.1 John F. Hines became the father of Frances Ellen 'Fannie' Hines on 2 December 1857.1 John F.'s daughter was married at wedding of Frances Ellen 'Fannie' Hines and Henry Patton Foote Blythe on 29 October 1874 in Ripley, Tippah County, Mississippi.1
