     Duke Johann Georg I (of Saxe-Marksuhl) was born on 12 July 1634 in Weimar, Saxe-Weimer-Eisenach, Thuringia.1 He was the son of Duke Wilhelm 'The Great' (of Saxe-Weimar) and Princess Eleonore Dorothea (of Anhalt-Dessau).1 Duke Johann Georg I (of Saxe-Marksuhl) married Countess Johannette (of Sayn-Wittgenstein), daughter of Count Ernst (of Sayn Wittgenstein) and Countess Luise Juliane (of Erbach), on 29 May 1661 in Wohla, Bautzen, Saxony.1 Duke Johann Georg I (of Saxe-Marksuhl) died on 19 September 1686 in Jadgschloss, Eisenach, Saxe-Weimer-Eisenach, Thuringia, at age 52.1 He was buried at St. Georgenkirche, Eisenach, Saxe-Weimer-Eisenach, Thuringia.1
