     Philip Sherman was baptized on 5 February 1609/10 in Dedham, Essex, England.2 He was the son of Samuel Sherman and Phillippa Ward.2 Philip Sherman married Sarah Odding, daughter of George Odding and Margaret Lang, circa 1633 in Roxbury, (now Suffolk County), Massachusetts Bay Colony.2 Philip Sherman died before 19 March 1686/87 in Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island.2 His estate was probated on 22 March 1686/87.2
     He immigrated in 1633.2 He was listed a freeman on 14 May 1634 in Massachusetts Bay Colony.2 He was elected Selectman in Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island, on 30 April 1639.2 He was listed on 16 March 1640/41 in Rhode Island.2 He was the General Recorder from 16 May 1648 to May 1651 in Rhode Island.2 He left a will on 31 July 1681 administrated by Samuel Sherman with heirs Sarah Odding, John Sherman, Benjamin Sherman, Phillippa Sherman, Edmund Sherman, Eber Sherman, Sarah Sherman, Peleg Sherman, Samson Sherman, Mary Sherman and Hannah Sherman.2
