Grand Duke Ludwig II (of Hesse) was born on 26 December 1777 in Darmstadt, Starkenburg, Hesse-Darmstadt
.1 He was the son of Grand Duke Ludwig I (of Hesse) and Princess Luise Henriette Karoline (of Hesse-Darmstadt).1 Grand Duke Ludwig II (of Hesse) was christened on 28 December 1777 in Darmstadt, Starkenburg, Hesse-Darmstadt.1 He married Princess Wilhelmine Luise (of Baden), daughter of Hereditary Prince Karl (of Baden) and Princess Amalie (Friederike) (of Hesse-Darmstadt), in 1804 in Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe, Baden.1 Grand Duke Ludwig II (of Hesse) died on 16 June 1848 in Darmstadt, Starkenburg, Hesse-Darmstadt, at age 70.1 He was buried on 19 June 1848 at Rosenhohe Chapel Bei Darmstadt, Starkenburg, Hesse-Darmstadt.1
